In addition to our VCE Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate, RNS also offers extra-curricular programs to support and inspire our students.
Students can enjoy and learn through music and performing arts. Sara Beheshti, one of our multi-talented teachers, shared some thoughts about the performing arts programs on offer this year.
What do we offer?
Weekly performing arts elective with two teachers – music, drama & presentation skills
Ukelele Club – Tuesday lunchtimes a group come to learn music notation, playing & singing songs, and writing our own songs.
Singing Club- Wednesday lunchtimes – a chance to choose our favourite songs & sing together. We also learn percussion to accompany our songs. Great chance to relax and have fun together.
Students usually perform at our school assemblies to share what they have learned.
What are the benefits?
Performing arts is great for wellbeing. Groups come together, do something fun together and momentarily leave bigger problems at the door.
It’s great for learning English, students can develop vocabulary, pronunciation and casual speaking skills.
Students can develop their presentation skills and feel more confident in front of an audience. Students also learn creativity and teamwork skills and how to be a supportive audience member.
On top of all that, students can also develop music skills like reading musical notation, rhythm, tempo, and pitch.
What do you notice about student engagement?
The sessions are filled with laughter, joy and smiles. As the sessions progress, we notice students building their skills and confidence. We find students come away with a real sense of achievement as they can see their skills growing each week.
